Data Science & AI Research Focus Class of 2027
Joseph Chamdani

About

Informatics junior at UW. AI, product, and how people actually use them.

University of Washington, BS in Informatics, 2025 to 2027. Junior at the iSchool with a 3.96 GPA and Dean's List honors both quarters so far. Coursework across databases, data structures, client side development, design methods, and research methods.

Bellevue College, AAS, 2023 to 2025, 90 credits transferred to UW. Two years of computer science, math, and physics. Led BC Tech Club as president and organized BC Hacks 2024 with 160+ participants.

Beyond the Classroom

  • AI Product Intern, Whitespace Solutions, Jul 2026 to Present. Product and engineering for an AI sales coaching platform: competitive analysis, feature work, pre-launch QA, live demos.
  • AI R&D Intern, Sector Cybersecurity, Aug 2025 to Feb 2026. Built an AI vulnerability classification system used across pen testing engagements and co-authored 3 published research papers.
  • AI Engineer Intern, Stockbit, Jul 2024 to Sep 2024. Shipped an OCR KYC pipeline and fraud detection models to production, serving 10K+ documents daily.

Research Interests

Where AI systems meet the people who have to trust them.

  • AI security and red teaming: finding where language models fail, and building tooling that surfaces those failures automatically
  • Applied AI in education, especially systems that make institutional processes like credit transfer legible to the students they affect
  • Human AI interaction: how people read, trust, and override automated decisions, and what an interface owes them when a model is uncertain
  • Building AI products end to end, from problem framing through evaluation to the parts that break in production
  • Reliability of systems people depend on, including monitoring, failure modes, and the distance between something working and something being watched

Academic Projects

  • INFO 200: Transfer Evaluation System. A student-facing tool that predicts credit transfers to UW based on transcripts, intended majors, and historical data. Generates advisor requests and downloadable reports. Code, Demo
  • INFO 201: AI Job Market & LLM Growth. Analyzing how large language model expansion from 2018 to 2024 relates to AI job demand and salaries, using Kaggle datasets. Code, Report
  • INFO 300: Human Judgment vs. AI Alerts. Research proposal investigating how users interpret and trust scam detection alerts from automated systems versus humans. Proposal
  • INFO 340: Planathon. Hackathon organizer web app consolidating task management, milestone tracking, team coordination, and event info into a single platform. Code, Demo
  • INFO 360: UW Nap Spot Finder. High-fidelity interactive prototype for finding quiet nap spots across UW campus, with an interactive map, noise filters, walking directions, and check-in. Code, Demo
  • INFO 380: Course Registration System. Registration prototype with student, advisor, and admin workflows, real-time search, conflict detection, waitlist management, and enrollment analytics. Code, Demo
  • INFO 498: Resonance Game Concept. Team game concept from UX Design for Games: a third person action adventure rooted in Greek mythology, from pitch and mood boards through an interactive character selection prototype. Prototype
  • INFO 498: Witcher 3 UX Makeover. Interactive redesign of The Witcher 3 inventory system, rebuilding shop, repair, and inventory flows around search, sorting, and clearer item comparison. Prototype
